Ardagh Glass Packaging-Barnsley celebrates 75 years

Published: June 14, 2022

Our Barnsley, UK facility marked 75 years of glassmaking on the site this year with a special event at the facility. On 13 June, the Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Sarah Tattersall, unveiled a steel 75 plaque to commemorate the milestone in the town’s history.

Children from two local schools, St Helens Primary and Littleworth Primary, who were asked to design a special 75-themed bottle, brought their designs along. These will be turned into a mural in the facility’s training centre. Retired colleagues returned to look at historic photographs of the site and enjoy the celebration along with our current Barnsley team.

“We’re immensely proud to have been making beautiful glass packaging in Barnsley for 75 years,” said Steve Wood, Plant Director. “Many local people have enjoyed careers here, creating everyday glass food and beverage containers and award-winning glass bottle and jar designs for well-known, worldwide brands. Sustainable glass manufacture makes this industry fit for the future, and we plan to still be here in another 75 years.”
