Celebrating International Day of Education 2024

Published: January 24, 2024

In recognition of International Day of Education (January 24), we are excited to share progress on our global social sustainability initiative, Ardagh for Education.

We are giving back to the communities in which our employees live and work by investing in education. Our aim is to empower future generations by providing primary and secondary schools in Ardagh communities with high-quality science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and best-in-class teacher training resources. To achieve this, we have partnered with non-profit organisations on both sides of the Atlantic.

Ardagh for Education first launched in 2021 in North America where, through our partnership with Project Lead The Way (PLTW), we are now in well over 400 schools in our U.S. communities, reaching thousands of teachers and students.

In 2022, Ardagh for Education expanded into Germany with the support of programme partner Wissensfabrik. We have since reached more than 100 schools across our German communities.

Our most recent programme launch – this time, in South America – came in 2023 when we announced our partnership with the Brazilian Social Service for Industry (SESI) and our investment of $5 million over 10 years. Ardagh for Education is expected to deliver best-in-class teacher training to 2,500 teachers across 200 schools, benefiting 200,000 primary and secondary school students in Brazil. As students and teachers begin to reap the rewards of this initiative, we continue to work to engage schools in our local Ardagh communities in Brazil.

In total, across the globe, we have upskilled more than 1,000 teachers and engaged more than 100,000 students in hands-on STEM learning experiences. The success of the initiative thus far has provided the inspiration to extend the Ardagh for Education programme into Africa and our other communities in Europe in the future.
